Media Advocacy
In January 2018, SNP began a six-month, strategic planning process through which we committed to create a new media advocacy platform to elevate the voices of those who have historically been excluded from traditional media.
Most of our clients and community partners lack the platform, tools, and other resources to effectively share their stories.
Since the creation of our media advocacy initiative, we have launched the following digital media campaigns:
SNP’s Kiana Davis, on Democracy Now, discussing the City’s failure to protect people who are homeless in New York City from Covid-19.
#HomelessCantStayHome is a campaign demanding that NYC Mayor de Blasio open 30,000 currently vacant hotel rooms for all homeless people who need a room and enact other protective measures to ensure that our homeless neighbors and our entire city can stay safe and alive during the Covid-19 pandemic.
This broad based campaign called on Mayor De Blasio and HRA Commissioner Steve Banks to reverse its decision to shutter a vital SNAP Center in Harlem.
A digital media campaign designed to prevent Congress from making any cuts or adding unnecessary conditions to SNAP in its Farm Bill.
In the fall of 2018, we launched #NotForSale to critique and fight the Trump Administration’s proposed rule changes to the definition of public charge.
In May 2018, in the weeks leading up to the passage of the “Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act,” we released a campaign wherein tenants’ in Queens discussed how major capital improvements (MCIs) threatened them, their buildings, and communities.
