Our team operates free legal clinics at soup kitchens and food pantries throughout New York City to assist clients on a walk-in basis.
Direct 1:1 Services
We provide legal advice and offer long-term legal representation to ensure eligible persons receive the benefits and services to which they are entitled, including issues such as:
- Food Stamp (SNAP) problems
- Public Assistance problems
- Repairs to NYCHA Public Housing apartments
- Eviction prevention services, including emergency rental and utility arrears assistance
We provide direct representation at Public Assistance & SNAP (Food Stamp) Fair Hearings and represent homeless families and adult couples at Legal Conferences and Fair Hearings regarding shelter denials. We also pre-screen and assist clients with SNAP applications and provide grants for emergency Rent and Utility Arrears.
Our advocates review Fair Hearing decisions to ensure the government complies with the judge’s decision. If we discover an illegal pattern of conduct, we engage in litigation to address systemic issues.
Dedicated Services For Our Community
Our clinics are open to all New York City residents. We strive to serve as many eligible people as possible, with particular attention paid to serving those who have not found help elsewhere. This includes individuals with limited or no English proficiency, immigrants, victims of domestic violence, LGBTQ communities, and people with disabilities.
We are dedicated to providing services that other organizations do not offer. This includes representing Public Assistance, SNAP (Food Stamp), and Emergency Shelter applicants and recipients.
Our agency also continues to provide legal services to victims of Hurricane Sandy.
